今、世界中がその作品に注目する新進気鋭の美術家、安野谷昌穂氏と歴清社がコラボレーション。箔を題材にした作品を制作していただきました。これまで数々の斬新な作品を世に送り出してきた安野谷氏ですが、箔をマテリアルとして使用するのは初めて。日本の伝統的な素材を理解し、破壊し、新しいものへと再構築したその作品群は『箔貌 TRADITION AND INNOVATION』と題されたエキシビジョンで発表され、大きな反響を呼んでいます。「箔とは、非常にシンプルな素材でありながら、それを使って表現できることは無限にあるようにも感じました。終点のない旅のようなもので落とし所を見つけるのが難しかったですが、僕の作品とはとても相性が良かった。新しい概念を与えてくれた気がします」（安野谷氏）。一般的な絵の具は見え方が単一的ですが、箔には奥行きがある。見る角度を変えるだけで、金色だったものが緑がかって見えたり、時には白い光だけになってしまうこともある。その複雑さを見事に捉えた作品群は、まさに必見です。伝統と革新の新しい接点が、また一つ掘り起こされた試みとなりました。

安野谷 昌穂
1991年兵庫県生まれ。 美術家。京都精華大学でデザインを、オランダのヘリット・リートフェルト・アカデミーでファインアートを学び、現在は東京を拠点に活動。 シンガポールの国宝と賞賛されるデザイナーのテセウス・チャンとドイツのSTEIDL社が手掛けたアート本「STEIDL-WERK No.23: MASAHO ANOTANI “DEFORMED”」で安野谷氏の作品が１冊丸ごとフィーチャーされる。 さらにCOMME des GARCONS SHIRTやZUCCaのコレクションに作品が起用されるなど、多方面でその芸術活動が注目されている。

The exhibition of the collaboration arts with Rekiseisha and MASAHO ANOTANI, an up-and-coming artist being watched by the world, was held. For this project, MASAHO created his artworks with leaf papers. It was his very first time to use leaf papers even though he has published numerous innovative artworks. He first understood this Japanese traditional material, but destroyed and reconstructed it for the exhibition called “HAKUBAKU TRADITION AND INNOVATION”. It has received a great reaction. MASAHO said, “Although the leaf paper itself is a very simple material, the things that I can do and express by using them are unlimited. And finishing up my work was like finding my lost property in a middle of no where, but the leaf paper was compatible with my artworks. It gave me a new concept of art.” Common paints have a simple appearance, but leaf papers have a depth. Just by changing the angle of your view, its gold color may shine like green. It sometimes happens to look like white light. His artworks that captured the complexity are a “must-see”. The tangency between tradition and innovation has been created throughout this project.

MASAHO ANOTANI
Born in Hyogo in 1991. An artist. He studied design at Kyoto Seika University and fine art at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in the Netherlands. Currently he is based in Tokyo, Japan. The art book, “STEIDL – WERK No.23: MASAHO ANOTANI” DEFORMED” published by the designer, Theseus Chan who is admired as the national treasure of Singapore, and a German publisher STEIDL, featured MASAHO’s artworks in its entire book. Furthermore, his artistic activities such as the collaboration with COMME des GARCONS SHIRT and ZUCCa are drawing attention in different directions.
